BACKGROUND
Dr. Bregu is an ophthalmologist who specialises in anterior segment eye surgery and strabismus, both simple and complex, in children and adults.
He began his career in 2008 as a medical and surgical specialist in ophthalmology, after successfully completing a PhD in Ophthalmology at the University of Turin′s Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Bregu′s surgical and outpatient activities take place at his private clinic at Cirič, the Aurora Clinic at Ivrea, and the Clinica della Memoria at Collegno, north west of Turin.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Dr. Bregu graduated in Medicine and Surgery with a First Class Honours Degree (110/110 cum laude) from the University of Turin in 2002, and obtained his specialisation in ophthalmology at the same University in 2008, again with full marks (70/70).
In 2003, Dr. Bregu passed the ECFMG examination that recognises his medical degree in the United States as well as being officially registered as an ophthalmology specialist in Sweden.
He completed two 12-month fellowships in Adult Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology: one at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne in 2012, and the other at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in 2013. He also undertook training in Medical Retina at North Devon District Hospital in 2011, Lincoln University Hospital from 2010 to 2011, and Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2010.
He completed a one-year Fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment at the ICH (Istituto Clinico Humanitas) in Milan from 2009 to 2010.
He served as Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Warrington and Halton Hospitals in the UK from 2013 to 2023. Between 2015 and 2022, he was also a representative for the Ophthalmology Department on their Committee for the Safety of Medicines and Therapeutic Devices.
To date, as primary surgeon, he has carried out over 11,000 cataract surgeries (simple and complex) and more than 1,100 strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology procedures. He is also the author of various scientific publications and presentations at international conferences.
Dr. Bregu is a member of several professional associations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), BIPOSA (British and Irish Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Association), and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).
He is also a member of SISO (the Italian Society of Opthalmic Sciences).
